Blacktop Hoops is the world's first competitive Virtual Reality street ball game.

Vinci Games pioneered a new era of immersive gaming, chaining together flashy dribble tricks, shots, and high-flying dunks to finish off opponents in epic games of 1-on-1 arcade basketball.

Project Scope

Designed UI that enhanced the game’s bold stylized visuals

The project aimed to redefine the streetball experience in VR by crafting an interface that matched the game’s energy and pace.

Through iterative design and close collaboration with the development team, I built a UI system that felt intuitive, competitive, and alive, supporting players as they dribbled, dunked, and dominated the court in Blacktop Hoops.

Competitive Analysis

Learning from the Competition

To refine the user experience and visual identity of Blacktop Hoops VR, I analyzed two leading titles in the VR basketball space: Gym Class and Big Ballers. This comparison helped identify key UX strengths, visual trends, and player engagement strategies, guiding design decisions that set Blacktop Hoops apart with a unique and stylish identity.

Design Discovery

The first steps in our Visual Design Journey

During the design discovery phase, I explored three distinct styles to define a visual identity that fit the energy and personality of Blacktop Hoops.

The goal was to find a look that felt both authentic and exciting in VR.

I created concepts for Sports Urban, Futuristic Heroic, and Playful Arcade, each inspired by popular games in those genres. This process helped narrow down the right tone and style that matched the game’s world and characters.
